Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The incidents occurred between 2021 and 2022, as revealed by the Metropolitan Police, which began investigations in February 2022 after receiving a report of rape.
The allegations include three counts of rape involving one woman, two counts involving another woman, and an additional charge of sexual assault tied to a third woman. Partey’s lawyer emphasized that he denies all charges against him and looks forward to clearing his name.
“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward,” said Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who leads the investigation. “We urge anyone affected by this case or with information to contact our team at [email protected].”
Partey’s association with Arsenal came to an end on July 4, 2025, following the expiration of his contract that he signed during his move from Atletico Madrid in October 2020.
He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5. Lawyer Jenny Wiltshire stated, “Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has cooperated fully with the police and the Crown Prosecution Service throughout the investigation. He welcomes this opportunity to clear his name, but due to ongoing legal matters, he cannot comment further.”
Jaswant Narwal, representing the CPS, added, “We have authorized prosecution after a thorough review of the evidence. We emphasize that criminal proceedings are active, and it’s critical that no information be shared publicly that could compromise the fairness of the trial.”
Partey, a Ghanaian international with 53 caps, made 167 appearances for Arsenal after a $60 million transfer from Atletico Madrid, where he previously won the Europa League and La Liga. Arsenal has been contacted for comments.
