Paul Pierce Defends His Scoring Legacy Against LeBron's Praise for Durant

Former NBA star Paul Pierce asserts his place in the conversation about the best pure-scorers, countering LeBron James' remarks on Kevin Durant.

Paul Pierce has maintained a strong sense of his scoring capabilities even after retiring from the NBA. Recently, he reacted to LeBron James calling Kevin Durant the ‘most-equipped scorer’ ever. Pierce insisted that he belongs in that discussion, emphasizing his effectiveness as a pure scorer over his career.

Key Quotes

“I should be in this conversation,” Pierce stated during an episode of his Fox Sports show, “Speak.” “I was probably the best pure-scorer ever in the history of the league… I was pretty equipped when I think about it.”

With an average of 19.7 points per game throughout his career and consistently ranking among the top in total points, Pierce is confident about his legacy in scoring. However, when compared to Durant, whose scoring prowess is complemented by a higher efficiency rating, the debate gets complex.

Pierce acknowledged Durant’s unique physical advantages but maintained that he also possesses the skills necessary to score effectively. He stated, “Because he’s 7-feet, he can get his shot off over anybody.”

Despite the statistics leaning towards Durant in terms of efficiency and overall scoring impact, Pierce firmly believes he is equally, if not more, ’equipped’ to score in various ways.

“Could you pull up from the elbow, could you knock down the 3, could you turn-around, could you dunk?” Johnson challenged Pierce.

“I could do all of it,” Pierce confidently replied.

While the numbers may not fully support his claim, Pierce’s conviction in his scoring ability and his place in the NBA scoring ranks remain strong.

“Shoot, you gotta put me in that conversation when you talk about the most-equipped scorers, C’mon Bron.”
