AJ McCarron Critiques Thomas Castellanos's Bold Comments on Alabama
The former Alabama quarterback responds to Castellanos's remarks about the Crimson Tide ahead of their matchup.
It seems that Thomas Castellanos’s bold declarations regarding his upcoming match against Alabama are far from being forgotten. The former Boston College quarterback had recently criticized Alabama in an interview with On3, provoking a strong reaction from AJ McCarron, the legendary Alabama quarterback.
“Where do you even start?” McCarron remarked on THE DYNASTY podcast. “You’re joining a team that ranked last in the ACC. You’re leaving a team where you lost the starting job after ranking ninth in the ACC. While confidence is important, this is simply foolishness.”
In the lead-up to Florida State’s Week 1 game against Alabama, Castellanos expressed bravado, stating, “They don’t have Nick Saban to assist them. I don’t see how they can stop me.” He also boasted about his ACC achievements, asserting that he had “dominated the ACC by myself” and warned that Florida State now possesses “weapons” after underperforming in scoring last season, which further fueled McCarron’s frustration.
McCarron suggested that Castellanos should consult with Bill O’Brien, the current head coach at Boston College and former offensive coordinator at Alabama, to gain insights into the intense competition within Alabama’s football program.
“Reach out to Bill O’Brien if you can,” McCarron advised. “Get his perspective on Alabama’s players and how the game is played. Have him tell you, ‘Thomas, you might want to stay quiet about this one and just focus on the game.’”
With a decorated career, including three BCS national championships with Alabama, McCarron possesses credibility in dissecting these remarks. He remains the all-time leader in passing yards for Alabama at 9,019 and ranks third with 77 touchdown tosses.
Throughout the past two seasons at Boston College, Castellanos appeared in 20 games, accumulating 3,614 passing yards, with 33 touchdowns and 19 interceptions, along with 1,307 rushing yards and 14 scores, leading all FBS quarterbacks in rushing touchdowns last season.
Castellanos left Boston College after being benched for the starting role before ultimately transferring to Florida State in December.
