Inter Miami is set to enhance its roster with more Argentine talent as talks progress with Atletico Madrid regarding a transfer for midfielder Rodrigo De Paul. As he approaches the final year of his current contract, De Paul, aged 31, draws interest. Reports suggest that Atletico may want to move him if a contract extension isn’t reached soon. However, some within the club, including manager Diego Simeone, prefer to retain him for another season.
De Paul has established himself as a prominent midfielder in La Liga and was part of the La Liga Team of the Season for 2024-25, scoring three goals last season. He boasts 14 career goals in 187 appearances for Atletico. Internationally, he played a pivotal role for Argentina in their triumphs at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2024 Copa America.
To acquire De Paul, Inter Miami must free up a Designated Player spot, currently filled by Messi, Busquets, and Alba. With Busquets approaching retirement at 37, his departure could facilitate the signing. Incorporating De Paul would deepen Inter Miami’s Argentine connection, adding to the roster that already includes former teammates of Messi, as well as other Argentinian players who joined since his arrival in 2023.
Following their Supporters’ Shield win last year, Inter Miami aims to continue their upward trajectory. Despite a recent playoff exit, they remain competitive, trailing FC Cincinnati by 10 points in the standings.
