Tyrese Haliburton to Sit Out Next Season Following Achilles Surgery

The Indiana Pacers' guard will not play next year as he recovers from a torn Achilles tendon, according to team officials.

The Indiana Pacers are not hurrying to have guard Tyrese Haliburton return as he heals from a tear in his right Achilles tendon.

During a news conference, president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard emphasized, “We wouldn’t rush him back. He won’t play next year, but he will come back stronger than before. Let’s not get our hopes up for an early return.”

Haliburton sustained the injury early in the seventh game of the NBA Finals, with his surgery taking place on June 23 at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, confirmed by the Pacers.

This past season was remarkable for Haliburton, highlighted by several buzzer-beaters and impressive performances. The Oklahoma City Thunder won the championship against the Pacers, recording a score of 103-91.

On social media, Haliburton expressed: “Honestly, even with a torn Achilles, I wouldn’t change anything. I’d do it all again for my city and teammates, striving to achieve something incredible.”

Pritchard also shared, “Haliburton’s attitude showcases his character. I wouldn’t want him to go through that again, especially if it means injury. My priority is his long-term career.”

Additionally, Pritchard revealed that losing Myles Turner in free agency to the Milwaukee Bucks was unexpected. Turner signed a four-year contract with Milwaukee, which involved waiving Damian Lillard to secure his acquisition.

“We were prepared to invest heavily to retain Turner, and we were negotiating sincerely. However, unrestricted players have the right to seek the best for their families. Such dynamics in the league make negotiations tough,” Pritchard concluded.
