Anthony Davis Undergoes Surgery for Detached Retina

NBA star Anthony Davis has undergone surgery to repair a detached retina suffered during the previous season, with expectations to return for training camp.

Perennial NBA All-Star and Dallas Mavericks center Anthony Davis has recently had surgery to repair a detached retina that he suffered during the 2024-25 season, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. Davis, who was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Mavericks in a major midseason trade for Luka Doncic, is expected to be ready for training camp following his recovery.

Davis has endured persistent issues with corneal abrasions after sustaining facial injuries, such as a notable incident last November that led him to exit a game after getting poked in the eye during a block attempt. Although he used goggles in high school, he has opted not to wear them in the NBA. His eye complications are merely one aspect of a variety of problems that have affected his playing time, raising ongoing concerns about his durability soon after his trade to Dallas.

After facing an abdominal strain when he joined the Mavericks, Davis subsequently missed over a month due to a left adductor strain during his debut, severely hindering the team’s performance post-trade. Nevertheless, the team is counting on Davis as a pivotal veteran leader to support top draft pick Cooper Flagg following their winning of the first pick in the NBA Draft Lottery.
