UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture was hospitalized on Tuesday after sustaining serious injuries from a car accident. The incident occurred at a Kansas City race track, leading to Couture’s airlift to a burn center.
Couture experienced first- and second-degree burns, along with trauma injuries and smoke inhalation due to the accident. The situation was initially reported by TMZ, with additional details from MMA Fighting.
At the time of the crash, Couture was practicing for his upcoming debut with the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). Currently, there are no specifics available regarding the cause of the accident.
Couture stated in an Instagram post last month, “I’ve been a fan of racing for 12, 13 years. From up in the stands, it looks really easy. Oh, they just go fast … it’s so much more involved.”
Inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2006, Couture is renowned for his remarkable career, being the first fighter to earn UFC titles in two separate weight categories. He remains the oldest champion in UFC history, winning a title at the age of 45. Couture’s notable rivals include a trilogy with Chuck Liddell and victories over Tito Ortiz and Vitor Belfort, among other highlights.
