Ryan Reid, Former Florida State Basketball Player, Passes Away at 38

The basketball community mourns the loss of Ryan Reid, a key player for Florida State, who died recently, leaving behind a legacy of excellence on and off the court.

Former Florida State basketball player Ryan Reid passed away recently. The French professional basketball club SLUC Nancy Basket announced his death. Previously, Reid had played for the Seminoles from 2006-10, becoming an essential player during the early Leonard Hamilton years.

Coach Luke Loucks, who was a teammate of Reid from 2008 to 2010, expressed his sorrow through social media, stating:

“Ryan was more than just a great basketball player; he was a great competitor, a trusted teammate, a natural leader, a devoted husband, and a loving father. He was a mountain of a man, both in stature and in spirit — always standing tall for those he cared about. His personality filled every room, and his sense of humor lifted every moment. I’ll forever cherish the battles we shared, the laughs, and the memories we built together.”

Throughout his career at Florida State, Reid played in 126 games and made 66 starts. Known for his exceptional defensive skills, he played a crucial role in the team’s success, which included 88 wins and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.

Drafted in the second round of the 2010 NBA Draft, he was selected as the 57th overall pick by the Indiana Pacers, who later traded his rights to the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he played briefly before pursuing an international career in countries such as Canada, France, Japan, and Puerto Rico.
