Jalen Hurts is set to be a Super Bowl champion, having earned the MVP title as well. However, some critics are still labeling him as ‘just a game manager’, claiming he greatly benefited from Saquon Barkley’s exceptional performance.
Nick Sirianni, Hurts’ coach, rebuffed this criticism during a conversation with NBC Sports Philadelphia, stating, “That’s bullsh–.”
Despite leading his team through four seasons with a 46-20 win-loss record, skepticism about his elite status continues, particularly in light of his regular season stats, which recorded only 2,903 passing yards, 18 touchdowns in the air, and 14 touchdowns scored by rushing.
The scrutiny increased when, last season, Hurts threw only 361 regular season passes compared to 538 and 460 in the two previous years. This is partly because of the significant contributions from Barkley, who surpassed 2,000 rushing yards in the last season.
Sirianni emphasized Hurts’ adaptability and commitment to winning, saying, “He does whatever he needs to do to win each and every game.”
Reflecting on the impressive performance during their Super Bowl victory against the Kansas City Chiefs, where Hurts recorded two touchdowns and completed 17 out of 22 passes, Sirianni reiterated that the success of great quarterbacks, like Brady and Mahomes, relies heavily on their surrounding team members. Ultimately, Sirianni returned to his key point regarding any debate over Hurts’ abilities – “this is bulls—.”
