San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is set to return to the court after recovering from blood clots that sidelined him.
San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has received full medical clearance to resume playing following treatment for deep vein thrombosis in his shoulder. Wembanyama shared his excitement in an interview with the French paper L’Equipe, stating:
“I’m officially cleared to return. … I’ll finally be able to play a bit of basketball again.”
(Translation: “I’m officially cleared to return. … I’ll finally be able to play a bit of basketball again.”)
There has been no official word yet from the Spurs organization, though it was understood that they were hopeful Wembanyama could return to play in the upcoming season.
Wembanyama, who was named Rookie of the Year two years prior, had originally been a serious contender for the Defensive Player of the Year accolade last season when he was diagnosed with the blood clot in February. At the time of his shutdown, he was averaging an impressive 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, and 3.8 blocks per game.
In recent months, Wembanyama has traveled extensively, including a visit to a Shaolin temple in China, known for its focus on meditation and martial arts.
