Damian Lillard Set to Rejoin Trail Blazers on $42 Million Contract

The nine-time All-Star will return to Portland after two years with the Milwaukee Bucks, signing a three-year deal amid injury rehabilitation.

Damian Lillard is making a significant return to the Portland Trail Blazers. He will sign a three-year, $42 million deal to rejoin the team where he built his legacy as a nine-time All-Star. Lillard, now 35, was previously waived by the Milwaukee Bucks in July, which opened the door for his reunion with Portland after being traded in 2023.

Despite concerns regarding his recovery from a torn Achilles, Lillard’s decision to return reflects his deep connection with the Blazers. Having been drafted sixth overall by the franchise in 2012, he spent 11 years there before the trade to Milwaukee. After two seasons playing alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo, he’s now set to reestablish his presence on the court with a young Blazers squad undergoing a rebuilding process.

Lillard averaged 24.9 points and 7.1 assists per game last season and is expected to focus on rehabilitation for the 2025-26 season. His leadership will prove crucial for the Blazers as they navigate this transition phase.

This contract will extend through the 2027-28 season, featuring a player option for the final year, alongside a unique no-trade clause, comparable to LeBron James’ status amongst current players. The Blazers’ motivations in resigning Lillard, despite the challenges they face in competing, underscore their commitment to integrating one of the franchise’s most iconic players back into their roster.
