The 2025 Open Championship continues Saturday as Moving Day takes over Royal Portrush with two rounds of (hopefully) pristine, difficult, unpredictable links golf ahead of one of the United Kingdom’s most notable courses. While the weather has been a beast all week, everyone in the field is hoping conditions can lighten up in Round 3 to replicate Scottie Scheffler’s lowest round of his major championship career with a score of 64.
With only 70 men making the cut from a large Open field, 16 players within seven shots of Scheffler are in contention for the prestigious title of Champion Golfer of the Year.
Royal Portrush is hosting the event for just the third time in the history of the world’s oldest golf championship, with the Claret Jug awarded outside Scotland or England in a rare occurrence. The course proves to be challenging for most, including Rory McIlroy, who is making his homecoming. McIlroy previously set a course record of 61 at Portrush, but had a rough outing last time the Open was held here in 2019, carding a 79 initially before rebounding with a 65 the next day.
The action continues on Saturday as Round 3 sets the stage for the final 18 holes of this last major of the year. Fans are filling the grounds, eager to witness how players like Scheffler, McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Robert MacIntyre, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Jon Rahm perform in the final rounds.
