The Atlanta Falcons haven’t made the playoffs since 2017, holding the longest dry spell in the NFL, just behind the New York Jets. However, hope ignites with second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. taking charge in 2025, as some in Atlanta fantasize not just about a postseason appearance, but a trip to the Super Bowl.
Ray-Ray McCloud, a wide receiver for the Falcons, expressed his optimism, stating: “I’m excited, and I’m not gonna be surprised by any of it. I’ve watched [Penix] every day for the last year at practice, and I’m just ready to see him go into an experienced year, a polished year, and see how it goes – go all the way to the Super Bowl.”
In the previous season, Penix assumed the starting role for the last three games, concluding with a 1-2 record where both defeats were in overtime. He left a mark with a commanding 34-7 victory against the New York Giants in his debut.
Kirk Cousins remains part of the team, providing depth and experience as Penix steps into the spotlight, following his selection as the eighth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Penix is not without support as he enters his first complete season as QB1. Drake London boasts a breakout season with career highs, while Darnell Mooney emerged as a strong target alongside tight end Kyle Pitts, who seeks to prove his worth in a crucial contract year.
Penix stated: “Got to get into the postseason. Seeing the Dirty Bird Nest and all the little highlights and fans. Man, they get rocking whenever we winning. So, I definitely want to get back to that. Winning football games so we can have the city turnt.”
