LATROBE, Pa. — Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers offense capitalized on a second chance given by coach Mike Tomlin during the initial days of training camp.
On Friday, the debut of ‘Seven Shots’ featured a best-of-seven contest between the offense and defensive units. After an early mishap on the first play, Tomlin allowed the offense to restart the series with a clean slate, leading to a successful 4-3 win that included two touchdown passes from Rodgers. This display was a marked improvement from his previous practice.
Rodgers found a particular spark during the competition, connecting on a touchdown to his camp buddy DK Metcalf, showcasing the chemistry they have developed.
“That’s what I anticipate,” Tomlin noted, emphasizing his expectations of the duo’s performance. “I’m not going to throw a pep rally. That’s what I expect.”
Later on, Rodgers clinched victory for the offense with another scoring pass to Pat Freiermuth, encapsulating what Steelers fans hope will be a recurring theme in the upcoming season.
Despite the excitement, Tomlin remains cautious about overanalyzing daily progress, reminding everyone that training camp is all about development and continuity.
In another significant move, the Steelers recently signed veteran safety Chuck Clark to bolster their secondary, which now features prominent players like Jalen Ramsey and Darius Slay.
Additionally, TJ Watt has been experimenting with different formations to maximize his impact on defense.
Unfortunately, weather conditions cut the practice short, prompting Tomlin to prioritize the safety of players and fans.
What’s next: The Steelers will hold two practices over the weekend before taking a break on Monday, while also revealing their Hall of Honor Class ahead of practice.
