The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are modifying Baker Mayfield’s contract to provide the veteran quarterback with a guaranteed salary of $30 million for 2026, according to ESPN. Previously, Mayfield’s contract had no guarantees for 2026, which marks the final year of the deal. The duration of Mayfield’s contract remains unchanged.
Mayfield signed a three-year, $100 million extension to stay with the Buccaneers during the 2024 season, following an initial one-year, $4 million agreement with the team in 2023.
Recently, Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht expressed the team’s desire to extend Mayfield’s deal when appropriate.
“I love Baker. I appreciate everything he’s done for us,” Licht remarked to The Athletic. “Our goal is for Baker to keep being the player he is and we will eventually reach an extension when the time is right, ensuring he remains our quarterback for the long haul. That’s the aim.”
Mayfield has played for four teams since entering the NFL. After the initial four years with the Browns, he was traded to the Carolina Panthers in July 2022, spending a portion of that season before being claimed by the Los Angeles Rams.
Since joining the Buccaneers in the offseason of 2023, Mayfield has excelled, achieving career highs in completion percentages (71.4), passing yards (4,500), and touchdowns (41) in 2024, leading Tampa Bay to consecutive playoff appearances.
