Olympic Champion Sha'Carri Richardson Detained Following Alleged Domestic Incident

Sha'Carri Richardson faces fourth-degree domestic violence charges after an alleged altercation with her boyfriend at an airport.

American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson was taken into custody on Sunday over accusations of domestic assault involving her boyfriend, Christian Coleman, at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Richardson, the reigning champion at the world 100-meter sprint, faces charges for fourth-degree domestic violence, as confirmed by the police report sourced from The Associated Press. Following her arrest, she was booked at the South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Washington, and was released on Monday afternoon.

A Transportation Security Administration supervisor alerted law enforcement about the altercation. Evidence reviewed by the officer suggested that Richardson forcefully removed Coleman’s backpack and pushed him against a wall when he attempted to pass by. It was reported that she threw an object, resembling headphones, at him.

“I was informed that Coleman did not wish to continue with the investigation and opted not to pursue the case as a victim,” stated the report from the attending officer.

USA Track and Field issued a statement regarding Richardson’s arrest, stating, “USATF is aware of the reports and is choosing not to comment on this situation.”

Recently, on Thursday, Richardson participated in the preliminary round of the 100 meters at the U.S. track and field championships held in Eugene, Oregon, maintaining an automatic qualification for the world championships scheduled for September as the defending titleholder. She secured two medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, claiming silver in the 100 meters and gold in the 4x100 meter relay.
